20 Mar School Closure – Work for Children
We are sending your child home with a paper pack of activities to complete as the school will close on Friday 20th March 2020. We understand that this is a very difficult time for everybody but ask that you do what you can to maintain a daily routine for your child that is similar to the hours of learning they spend at school. Please refer to the school website https://sirthomasabney.hackney.sch.uk/classes/ and open your child’s year group page for the weekly timetable. The first weekly timetable will be available by the end of the day on Friday 20th March.
We have seen a significant drop in our school attendance in the last few days and next week we will consider how we distribute the paper packs to children who are absent from school.
We would suggest for children in Years 1–6 to study for two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon. In addition, their day should include up to an hour quiet reading or shared reading with a family member. We will be sending children home with some reading materials and ask that you also make use of online books by registering on https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/#. A drawing or a creative activity will also be good for them to do – this could be linked to their Literacy, IPC or science work.
Nursery, Reception and Year 1 children, please check your child’s Tapestry account regularly for learning ideas and suggestions. This will be updated regularly. Year 1 parents Tapestry accounts will be re-activated. New parents will receive an email with login details.
We are assuming at the moment that the school will be closed until the end of the scheduled Easter holidays for all children other than vulnerable children and those with key worker parents. We have provided sufficient work packs to ensure the children continue their learning up until the end of the Easter holidays. If the school remains closed after Monday 20th April, we will contact you again. If we remain closed work will continue to be provided via the school website or an online learning platform. The school will communicate via a weekly email and will keep you updated.
We appreciate that this is a difficult time for everyone. However, it is very important that you support your child’s learning by monitoring their activities daily, and helping them to keep learning.
Please keep checking the school website, texts and emails from the school.
