Sir Thomas Abney is a Speech and Language Resourced School with provision for 22 children with speech, language and communication difficulties. The allocation of places is decided by the local authority in consultation with the school, the local speech and language team and parents.
It is important to note that admission to the mainstream section of Sir Thomas Abney Primary School does not afford any child priority placement into the Language Resourced School. All children allocated a place in this way, are part of the school and join in all activities. They are included into mainstream classes for lessons, enabling them to experience the full curriculum.
Additionally the children are taught in small groups and receive regular speech and language interventions. Our expertise in language disorders enables us to provide specialist teaching to address specific language difficulties, whilst also providing a wider access to the National Curriculum at a pace and level best suited to the needs of our individual children. Programmes of work are underpinned by identified speech and language therapy targets with additional input delivered by the resident speech and language therapists.
