Coronavirus – letter to parents 2 – Closure

School Update on Closure and Examinations

The government has taken the decision to close schools across England from Monday 23rd March. In accordance with this our school will close at 3.15pm on Friday 20th March 2020.

In a written statement on Wednesday 18th March the Secretary of State for Education, Gavin Williamson, has said: “We will not go ahead with primary school assessments or secondary exams this summer”. This means the following assessments planned between April and July 2020 are cancelled:

  • end of key stage 1 and key stage 2 assessments (including tests and teacher assessment)
  • phonics screening check
  • multiplication tables check
  • science sampling tests

We appreciate that particularly for our Year 6 pupils who will be leaving us and moving on to Secondary School in September that this may be upsetting. However, we will ensure that all necessary information regarding their progress and achievements will be fully communicated to their new Secondary Schools.

From next week, schools in England will be expected to play a new role in support of vulnerable learners and key workers. This will involve us being open for some pupils. We will directly contact some families of pupils and will be in touch with parents/carers about key worker status.

My thanks to all parents and learners for their patience and calmness during these challenging times. We will ensure that all children will be provided with work during this school closure and you will receive guidance on this.
