The School Day

Our school opens at 8:50am for registration with classes starting at 8:55am.

EYFS

Our nursery provides 50 places with some on a full-time basis. There is a morning and an afternoon session. Places for Nursery can be applied for through our school and all Reception places are applied for directly through the Learning Trust.

Learning

At Sir Thomas Abney we teach a curriculum that is exciting, fun and creative. When you walk into any of the classrooms, you can expect to find children engaged in thinking, questioning and learning. Our aim is always to help each child perform to his or her best and develop a love for learning.

SEN

Assessment

With the introduction of a new National Curriculum, assessment has been overhauled in the primary education system from September 2014. Levels, as teachers knew them, are now gone and have not been replaced with a national system. The Government has given each school the freedom to design their own assessment system.

Homework

There is an expectation that your child will complete set homework, the amount of which will vary across the school.

A Resourced School

Sir Thomas Abney is a Speech and Language Resourced School with provision for 22 children with speech, language and communication difficulties. The allocation of places is decided by the local authority in consultation with the school, the local speech and language team and parents.
