Graduate Teaching Assistant

Are you a graduate that would like to build your school based experience ahead of teacher training in September 2018 or beyond?

Would you like to commit to work as a Teaching Assistant in an excellent North London Primary for a contracted year?

** Excellent Graduate Opportunities **
** Classroom support across the Primary phase **
** SP18 (£21,546) 37.5 hours per week – Academic year – September 2017 Start **
** Excellent Transport Links **

The Teaching Assistant Role:
This fantastic two form entry primary school based in the North London borough of Hackney within walking distance of Manor House and Stoke Newington stations is currently looking to take on dedicated graduates to work as general teaching assistants for the full academic year from September 2017. This role is a full-time classroom teaching assistant. The role will see you providing general support to the class along with ‘break-out’ intervention groups.

There will be a focus on Numeracy and Literacy provision and although not your primary responsibility, you will also get the opportunity to support pupils with learning difficulties on a one to one basis. You will also be encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities such as after school clubs. There is ample opportunity with this teaching assistant role to gain the skills needed for your teacher training.

The School
This year, we are looking to take on a small number of driven graduates that have a vested interest in building a career as a teacher. We actively embrace aspiring teachers and the teaching assistant positions allow the perfect platform for individuals to gain that crucial experience.  As part of the Hackney Teaching School Alliance we can support your application to the school based Initial Teacher Training Programme ‘School Direct’ for September 2019. The HTSA work in partnership with the University of Cumbria.

The school has an exciting and challenging atmosphere where purposeful learning takes place. It is a large school, which benefits from a spacious 1950s building and excellent resources. If successful you will be joining a highly motivated, enthusiastic and caring team of teachers and support staff that create a nurturing learning environment.

The Candidate – Graduate Teaching Assistant
A primary school teaching assistant position is the ideal role for those dedicated to honing their skills, building relationships and gaining a better understanding of the school system. As a classroom teaching assistant you will need to be a dynamic and proactive individual, confident in your abilities to support primary aged pupils with a passion for providing high levels of support to young people. Previous experience working with children is essential: teaching overseas, volunteering, youth work, tutoring or mentoring will hold you in good stead for your application. Most importantly, a confident and enthusiastic nature coupled with a dedicated attitude.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All Sir Thomas Abney School posts are subject to an enhanced DBS check. We welcome applications from all sections of the community, regardless of gender, race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or age.
