We are delighted to announce that we will be running a few ‘Come Dine with Me’ sessions. These are designed to give parents an opportunity to come in to school and have a school meal with their child. If you would like to take part, please note that places are limited, please book your place by emailing:
Dates are as follows: Thursday 7th March, Tuesday 12th March, Tuesday 26th March
Once you have booked your place you will be given a more precise time to arrive during the school lunch hour. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
In May the Year 2 children will complete their End of KS1 national curriculum tests (SATs).
The tests are used to inform your child’s class teacher about how your child is progressing, compared to children of the same age nationally. Your child will not be tested on anything they have not covered in Year 1 and Year 2.
Your child will take the tests during May at a time determined by your child’s class teacher. They are not strictly timed tests and most children will be unaware that they are taking them as Year 2 staff will incorporate tasks into everyday lessons. The KS1 tests taken by Year 2:
|English reading||2 papers: short text and comprehension questions; longer text with separate questions|
|English Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (non-statutory; optional tests that are not reported on)||2 papers: spelling; grammar and punctuation|
|Mathematics||2 papers: arithmetic; mathematical reasoning|
Teacher assessment is used to report children’s attainment and progress to parents/carers and to the local authority. Teachers will use the test results to help them reach an overall judgement in English reading, English writing and mathematics. You will also receive a teacher assessment judgement for science, but there is no science test. In line with the requirements of the national curriculum, there are no levels attached to the tests and teacher assessments; rather a judgement as to whether your child is working towards the expected standard, working at the expected standard or working at greater depth within the expected standard. You will receive your child’s teacher assessments by the end of the summer term. You can help your child prepare at home by ensuring they complete all their homework tasks and home reading.
Parents of Year 2 are invited to an information meeting on Wednesday 27th March 2019 at 3.30pm. Parents should wait for class teachers to release all the children before re-entering 2 Juniper classroom for the meeting.
Year 1 and some Year 2 pupils will be taking the screening check.
